Driving advice for seizure patients

Decisions about driving are made by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

DVLA driving regulations are available on the GOV.UK website and any advice from the Neurology department will be taken directly from the DVLA guidelines:

Decisions on driving are rarely based on recommendations from the specialist team as the DVLA generally request medical information and make the decision themselves.

Please do not tell patients they cannot drive until they have seen a specialist or have had a scan/ECG. This is only the case in specific circumstances (e.g. if the patient drives a bus or lorry).
